Most of you have seen pics of this machine before and a couple of you have seen it in action and one of you has one. But for those who haven't and what to get into vacuum forming/thermal forming, this is a very good home built machine that will probably fulfill all you your vac forming needs for the foreseeable future. The plans are from BuildStuff.com ( sorry no link here). they are very easy to follow and offer several building options and advice on choosing a vacuum system and tips on using the machine. Build Stuff also offers a heating element kit which I strongly recommend.
Building it takes some woodworking skills and tools and some parts need to be welded but you can by pass that and still get good results. I did. This machine will require a certain monetary investment in materials and vacuum system but it wont brake the bank IMO. The result is a machine that is far superior to the less expensive methods of building a frame, heating the plastic in an ordinary oven (never, never do this) and using a shop vac to draw a vacuum.
I built this former with the sole intention of forming comms and maybe trics almost two years before I actually got around to prop building. The scary thing is that the other day I realized that I could fit the next size up machine in my basement.
