After wanting one for ages, I finally bought one off eBay. The prices tend to be unfortunately too high for me to normally justify, but there was a damaged one listed that I got a good deal on. It has either a crack or a scratch in the screen; hard to tell which. I'm hoping that with a graphic over it, it won't be very visible. Or possibly it could even be replaced. It's also missing the battery compartment cover.
That last detail is a bit of an issue because the batteries fit fairly loose and fall out unless held in place. Can anyone else who owns one confirm whether their batteries are that loose as well?
I'm hoping I'll be able to make a custom cover to replace the missing one. Can anyone post a photo of the inside of their cover?
I've also been thinking of opening it up, to get a better look at the screen. If anyone has done this, is it fairly easy to manage all of the interior electronics, or will I run into problems trying to put it back together?
Does anyone know if the real props had certain details sanded off or not? There are a few raised bumps and icons on the back. They're subtle, but visible.
It's actually better quality than I expected. The screen is very bright. It has a solid heft to it as well. In fact, it struck me just how similar in size and shape it is to a Kindle Fire 7" tablet. I recently got one of these very cheap on Prime Day. It's so affordable that I was wondering if anyone had thought to convert one into an Cabin-style PADD. It would take relatively little alteration and I think it would be fairly convincing. The advantage being you can put whatever graphic, or animation, on the screen that you want. It might be a fun project for someone.
I hope someone has some feedback for my questions above. Thanks!
