The fact that I'm posting this thread probably means that I need to see a counselor myself, but somebody had to do it eventually.
I'm not per se saying I intend to build this object, but I have always been vaguely curious about it. And it falls into that category of my favorite props: TNG props that you could display without anybody ever knowing that it was a Star Trek prop replica.
There were two versions.
In both cases, the base appears either to be marble or wood with a faux marble finish. (The smaller one sometimes looks to me to be white washed wood though.) The larger version appears to have a vert-de-gris finish to the bowl, and the smaller one seems to be either copper or brass.
This smaller one usually has sand piled in it, which is made clear in the "Realm of Fear" caps. The larger one also either had sand or a plastic dome of some sort that was backlit. It's hard to tell.

"The Icarus Factor"
Version 2 (Smaller, and two of them)
Why the switch? The one is clearly based on the other. An interesting mystery. Perhaps the first one was a commercially purchased lamp that was damaged in production and the second ones are replicas?
