Any info you have on these would be good. I started with Trekme’s diagram. I was told that the rounded end is a complete arc, so I changed that. I don’t like that thickness at 3/16". 1/4" makes more sense. What do you think?
Looks pretty good.
I think the accepted thickness is 1/4". That is a standard material thickness even back then. Used 1/4 MDF for my masters and it looks and feels right.
Thanks, my next version will make that change. Not now though, I went a little nuts messing with that rounded edge. Should have taken a minute but it was driving me nut. No more today.
Excellent. Thanks for sharing your drawings here, @Lt.Washburn!
What CAD software are you using, btw?
I think in one of his other threads he mentions that he uses Sketchup.
@Lt.Washburn, great work on all of the models. They’re great!
Oh, cool. I didn’t realize SketchUp could make such nice dimensioned drawings.
Yeah, I’m learning SketchUp.
Only problem, is I’m using some promotional version that runs out in a week, so I don’t know which features, if any, I’m going to lose when that runs out and I have to use the free version.
norbauer, a few others, and myself have been using Autodesk Fusion 360 for CAD and 3D modeling work. It is super easy to work with and it is free for the hobbyist. Check out a little of the discussion here: CAD/3D Software used for prop making
I looked into a few different programs. I might try learning Fusion in the future, but right now I’m getting a little better with SketchUp and don’t want to interrupt that just yet.
Cool! When/If you do try Fusion, don’t hesitate to ask for help. By the way, your Sketchup CAD is looking great.
Changed the thickness. Is my angle cut accurate?
It looks right, at 45°.
Is it just me or does this look only rounded on ONE side? or is this photo of a repro?
This screen cap from Paradise Syndrome shows the cards with a full round over.
maybe the photo I have isn’t a “real” one… or maybe there were different ones made… I never really spent any time looking at screen grabs of the data cards before.
You are correct their round only on one side. Ive made a hundred of these for James and as you know he demands perfection!
I’m sorry but the data cards have a full round on one edge not a half round. James even mentioned to me once that his are wrong but that he was going to live with it for now because he had so many. Here is a picture from WNMHGB that shows the edge in side view.
They do seem to be round on both sides.
