This will be a little long but worth the read!! I'm EXTREMELY PROUD to present my take on the opening ratchet mechanism for the TNG 1st. Season Mark VI Tricorder! This has been a 25+ year endevor and passion of mine on and off all these years. My first attempts all those years ago were crude but worked (to a point) but nothing that I would be able to mass produce.
Since picking this up again just in the last 2 months, I have found new enthusiasm and great support from all you on this forum!! Your support and encouragement have meant a great deal to me!! Since being on disability for the last 8 years, you have NO IDEA what it means to me to be able to contribute again to this arena!! It's been a source of strength for me to endure the hours of work (both mental and physical)! I have to accept my physical limits now, but at least I know I can still contribute in some small way to this wonderful community!
Now to the mechanism... Right now it is at (what I believe) 95% of where it really needs to be. That said I know what to do now to get it at 100% but I can not do that until I get the first castings out of the mold. This mechanism is as close to behavior to the original as anyone has ever got before. However there are limits!! First and foremost this is a COMPLETELY different set up than the original! You will NOT be able to "PULL A DATA" and force the unit open!! You must let it open on its own!! I have had to take into account a number of factors such as weight and density of the material to come to the final product!
The kits will definitely be pre-assembled to a point. And the mechanism will be SEALED to protect it!! It will be calibrated for each unit based on factors I can't anticipate until I get the castings started.
I want to thank each of you again for your encouragement and support on this!
Enjoy the video!! By the way, this is revision 4 of the mechanism and as far as I'm concerned, I nailed it!!
Best to you all!
