I’ve been pondering making one of these as it’s my favourite of the later TNG Props Of The Week - I think my attachment to it is that it was one of the most recognisable bits of gear that came with the Playmates figures.
I found these photos on Photobucket which I think must be the real prop - a lot of the details line up. I’m guessing it was in 4 main parts? A left/right vacformed handle, the back section as a vacform and then the hood / matte box? The battery cap / inner part is beautifully detailed - I thought it’d be a found part but it does look really TNG in it’s design.
I was quite tempted to start one of these, but the shape / number of radii means it’s probably not suited to the usual acrylic cut/buildup method - I thought about using quarter round rod to do most of the edges but can’t find anything in the right size.
What would be a good base material to use for this to get those deep curves?
