today I finished this LCARS keypad. The dimensions are 8 1/4" x 5" x 1/4" and the material is one layer of clear plexi and one layer of black PVC hard foam.
Really cool. I have a crunch on LCARS style panels. How did you cut the acrylics and pvc to this very exact shape?
Knowing Dietrich, he probably cut it with a piece of broken glass whilst looking the other way! He has a ridiculous steady hand and exacting eye.
Another beautiful piece!
here is a picture with the tools I used.
I’ll keep my vinyl cutter. That’s a lot of fussy work.
Did you make the corners and rounds free hand ? I’d had to use a laser cutter for that .
What did you use for glue? What is a best practice there? I am asking because I have a LCARS display stand for a line up of 1:2500 Enterprises in the making displaying some stats.
The rounding the corners I’m using this tool
and two different kinds of sanding paper, one rough and the other one fine. Actually I didn’t use a glue, around the keypad is a 1/4" wide black stripe of vinyl.
Hope that helps.
It certainly does. Thanks a lot. Using vinyl is quiet interresting. Gives you the opportunity to reopen it.
No problem Shogz, you’re welcome.
