Sadly Forbidden Planet was the END of the big wave of Science Fiction Movies, we got: 'The Thing" “Destination Moon”, “Rocket ship XM” “War of the Worlds” “When Worlds Collide” “This Island Earth” “The Conquest of Space” and “Forbidden Planet” MGM’s BIG budget film, most of this list were in the “A” and “B” budget and production movies and sadly FP was not a block buster and after it failed to light fires Sci-Fi fell back to “C” and “D” films made more for the drive in movies, there was no top drawer movie until “2001” and again it did not do well except for the druggies that loved “the Trip” part.
So again we were back on the “C” list even “Logan’s Run” was a low “B” or high “C”, until 1977 and we got “Star Wars” and the rest is history. NOW every year they make fantastic movies and they are so common they are like Westerns were none of them are block busters any more and drop off within a month of showing and no one loves then and hold them dear.
I remember the 80s and standing in line to see the latest big movie…The last line waiting for a grand opening I have seen in the past decade was not for a film it was for a Iphone.
We got what we prayed for: acceptance and to be respected and we got it.
“Big Bang” is one of the TOP TV shows and we get about 10 new movies a year, but these TV shows and Movies do not light our hearts on fire like the movies I listed and the old TV Shows like “Twilight Zone” “Lost in Space” and Star Trek" did.
It is a new world. It is in many ways a Sci-Fi world.
