This color reference thread is a great idea, surprised there are no listings here for TOS colors. Documenting and sharing this info can be extremely valuable and benefit all, saving paint costs and time involved with trial and error. Colors can be really tough since everyone sees them differently and lighting conditions, cameras, oxidation, weathering, age, as well as monitors, printers etc. effectively result in colors all over the place. It sure would be nice to know a standardized currently available color set for TOS.
I've got a vintage Dickel bottle on the way and would like to paint the leather up as it appeared in the show. I've seen references a couple of times of a "Macao Orange" paint for this prop and have seen the color described as both a red-orange and a yellow-orange. Does anyone know who makes the Macao Orange and is it available in a spray can?
I'm making a TOS wall intercom, and attempting to sort out the color. I've got a Krylon KR 2328 red Pepper/Safety Red and have ordered a Krylon KR 52108 Red Banner as recommended by @jameskirk and will be painting up a couple of sample chips for reference.
The intercom portion I've seen called Krylon Peacock Blue which doesn't seem to exist and Krylon Peekaboo Blue which does exist and that's the color I used. But I've also seen them listed as Delft China. For the grille cloth I used a mist of Rustoleum RU 257389 Universal Silver but have seen them described as Silverfish, light gray primer mist and brownish.
BSG had a set of official Color Chips, linked below, they're not all current color offerings but can be made up. I like to paint up and label my own chips like they did for BSG in the link. It certainly helps and I never trust colored caps to match the actual paint in the can.
