I’m a photographer, so I kind of want one of these on display with all my cameras. I’m fairly sure the holo imager is made from the controller of an RC toy, but does anyone know the model? And what about some of the other parts?
Oops, just found on rpf it’s an Airtronix Avenger.
I believe Ryan has put a lot of effort into those already.
I’m actually tempted to try to build it as a functional digital camera.
I had that idea years ago using an old disposable 35mm film camera! I never did anything about it though so I would be stoked if you did this!
I have a ton of info on the original prop and am surprised to note I never did a thread on it here, but it seems that was before TFW existed.
However, when it comes to making it a functional camera, you take me a bit out of my element there.
It would be the best camera for taking to cons and snapping away at some props.
No kidding, right?!
In theory it shouldn’t be that hard to achieve. Were you thinking of sourcing an original rc controller of scratch building?
Have the body (a RC controller - Airtronics Avenger) and most the greeblies in my To-Do box for years, just haven’t got around to building it.
Seems to me it would be easier to get my hands on the original controller.
Makes sense, would deffinately make it more authentic too. You could just mount a stock digital camera inside behind the lens and have a remote capture button. That’s how I wanted to do mine but it turned into one of those projects that never made it to the bench. Yet!
I will sooner or later have to make version of Quark’s holo imager too.
You mean the Bajorian tricorder.
I have the playmates version of that tricorder, it was hard to find, but there it was tucked away in a corner of a small toy shop, I was a very happy child that day!
I see! They just put a little lens thingy on it!
