Is “plaved” a typo for “placed” or a cool modeling term I’ve never heard of?
I was kind of hoping this model would be displayed on a recreation of the mount they used during filming.
Fixed typo. We just aren’t sure how we are going to display it yet…
Oh man, this is so cool!
Planning the next step, Secondary Hull.
Real nice set of plans, did you draft them too?
Time to put on your Cooper hat, it looks like a barrel construction!
These are the documentation/restoration plans from the Smithsonian that I work from. When I receive then I upscale them to a one-to-one scale. And then I begin my work.
All of those radius cuts! Angels and ministers of grace…
That’s “Angles and ministers of grace…” (:
Don’t forget the extra metalwork to keep the warp nacelles from leaning too far! Maybe a metal framework, and all the other pieces (including the engineering hull) are more or less ‘suspended’ from the metal frame. Less stress!
First coat of primer. Still some shaoing needed.
Tomorrow the bridge meets B&C deck.
Go go go Pielock!!
That engineering section is critical to the support of the rest of the model. It’s the foundation to it. Looking forward to seeing it.
So very true. Are you making the nacelles too, Steve? It would be worth much getting their weight calculated into the support plan. Or are you striving for more of a replica?
James wants this to be as close to the original screen used prop as possible. We are using in many cases better, stronger materials then what was used on the original. Several members of our crew are in constant contact with several of the smithsonian team asking questions and getting Ideas on how to improve on some of the shortcomings of the original.
Interesting comment came up on Facebook. This scene in the Doomsday Machine looks like the pendant from Cats Paw. The total opposite of this thread.
Breakfast w b&c deck.
I don’t claim to know for sure, but there is some debate I’ve seen about it being the Catspaw model in DM, enough that makes me skeptical of that suggestion.
Can’t wait to see the bridge attached to the B/C deck!
