That would be my guess as well.
I agree that in the TV Magazine shot, it very much looks to be protruding,
But I can't see that in any of the screen frames. In fact, in most it appears to my eyes to be inset like a camera focus ring.
I'll admit some bias on this, as I strongly prefer the inset version for purely aesthetic rather than screen-accuracy reasons. But since none of the film frames are absolutely conclusive (again, it almost looks like we're seeing multiple versions), and the magazine shot is fairly unambiguous, I'm happy to go with protruding.
The only thing I could figure in defense of the inset theory is that what we're seeing at the right edge on the magazine shot is a light area on the aluminum panel behind the scanner and not actually yellow on the scanner. That bit at the edge that looks to be protruding yellow is actually green.
Not unlike the chromatic aberration caused by reflections on other parts of the aluminum panel
And less like the yellow lines
Then again, this yellow line appears pretty green too
So it's really difficult to say what's going on in this photo.
