Thought it would be good to start a thread specifically for mods to The Wand Company Bluetooth Communicator. The regular threads are full of mine’s on it’s way, shipping delays etc. which makes it rough to find mod info without wading through all of that.
My first mod was to paint the inside of the T-Jet Hub button holes with an extra fine tip brush matte black. Second mod was removing the black T6 screws, drill and tapping the threads to take brass #2-56 slotted screws. I’m still not quite satisfied with it and am planning more mods so. . .
Next up will be replacing the mic grille with an accurate vintage one I picked up. Along with that though after delving in, it looks like I’ll also have to replace the T-Jet Hubs because it appears the ones TWC used will need to be cut off to gain access. I’m considering aluminum replacements if I can find them as long as replacing them since they’ll wear better and this is a functional device it’s the best replacement option.
At this point I’m undecided about replacing the plastic jewels with proper SWAROVSKI crystals but the plastic replicas just don’t have the right look.
I’m contemplating options for covering the indent plate with FCC info which really ruins the look of the back shell for me. It would be ideal if someone could make a replacement back shell without this indentation since covering the entire back with velcro inhibits the cordless charging. I suppose a simple small patch of velcro could do it but that would look odd too. Maybe something like the old vinyl dashboard repair kits or perhaps filling the indentation with JB Weld then sanding, texturing and painting.
Has anyone else here been doing any mods on their TWC Communicators?
