Thanks. I’m finally done with the black acrylic plates including working the switch paddles again. Next move is the remaining graphic and detail on the plates but enough for today.
If anyone is interested, the process I used on the plates was to cut them out on a band saw and then flat sand the edges with a belt sander. I also ground a bit of the corners off.
That was followed with using 80 grit paper and a sanding block to make the basic edge shape.
That was followed with a lot of time using 220 grit paper by hand to remove the 80 grit scratches.
That was followed with 400 grit paper, then 1200 grit paper, and then the backing of the 1200 grit paper. Ant deeper scratches showing were reworked at this time.
After that the upper protective paper was removed and the top edge worked in the same fashion.
That gets followed with 3M foam polishing glaze. All dust now shows up clearly, but the plates are pretty good and anything you just hate can be reworked.
