Here is the Wand Companies Facebook post concerning the delay-
We are sorry and disappointed to have to announce a delay in the launch of our Star Trek: The Original Series Bluetooth Communicator. Originally planned to be ready in January 2016, the Communicator now won’t be shipping until April 2016.
We understand that those of who have pre-ordered will be as upset as we are by this delay. However, we hope that you will understand that this delay has occurred because of our continued dedication towards the product’s performance and authenticity.
Specifically, it has taken us longer than we expected to refine the antenna grille opening action and to make sure that the surface texture is as true to the hero prop as it is possible for us to make.
Initial tests on prototype mouldings showed that the antenna grille action needed refining if it was going to perform as expected in day-to-day use. We know that the flip-to-answer is an iconic aspect of the Communicator and one that we have to get absolutely right. Extensive testing with prototypes showed that we needed to design a special clutch mechanism which required a redesign of the main internal housing detail and this introduced a delay. At the same time, we have had to take extra steps to make certain that the surface texture is as close to the original as possible. We were very fortunate to have been loaned the only known remaining sample of original Kydex material, but matching it accurately has required multiple sample test runs of the surface texture to make sure it is accurate before we were happy for it to be laser etched into the main housing tooling.
Now that the antenna grille action is how we want it and the surface texture looks right, the Communicator is ready to go through the thorough qualification processes required before we can move to full mass production manufacture.
We know you will be very keen to receive your new Communicator but we also hope that, having waited 50 years for a real working Communicator, waiting another few months for one that not only works but looks and feels as good as the real thing will be something that you are prepared to do.
