Any idea what this is? Looks like some sort of Aquarium heater or filter, but I could be completely wrong. I believe it to be a found item though based on some of the notches in the corners of the metal plates, and the hole in the end (where I believe the cord came out). Again, all speculation, but thought you guys might have some ideas.
That's a weird one. Does look like found parts particularly with how the clear sections inside the metal panels have mold ejection points and is split into two halves.
Here's one more image for scale... Auction says it is 18.5" long by 3" diameter
Ooops, thanks. I missed that one in my upload. I was surprised how big it is, 18.5"! Makes me think, if aquarium related, then a Salt Water item. It has 2 screws on the sides up towards the tip, to adjust value pressure or something I'd guess.
I'm thinking this might be two same devices stacked with the bottom one having the longer clear top cut down.
Yes agreed Scott
It is a bird feeder
Had six in my back yard
Lowes use to sell them
I see that now. lol.
I have 3 in the attic. My wife noticed it, the night we watched FC at the theaters. She looked at me and said, they are using bird feeders.
And that one is the Thistle feeder
Perky Pets use to make them
Seems to only be available as a triple tube. Expensive and a top would need to be sorted.http://www.birdfeeders.com/perky-pet-copper-finish-triple-tube-bird-feeder-7103-2
Nice eye Kev!!
Yeah, seriously! Good catch Gotta love these really obscure props, lol.
When you consider you could do up three of them and sell two of them to off-set the cost, the price for that triple feeder isn't that bad.
@jhusel: out of curiosity, in what episode/context was this used?
Well, Kev mentioned he and his wife noticed it while watching ST:FC in theatres.
Looks like I'll have to watch it again myself to see if I can see where this was in the film.
On DS9, episodes "Penumbra" and "In the Cards"
The Borg are messing around with these on the deflector emitter in First Contact. Then there's a note that it showed up in DS9 and VOY "mostly as organic sample containers".
